What does the term “parda-poshi” means?

“To hide someone’s weaknesses, imperfections, and shortcomings”

Why this act is given so much significance that ALLAH (SWT) Himself would hide that person’s faults?

The answer is the Hadees of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him):

Our Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam looked at the Kaba and said: ‘La-Ilaha-Illallah’ How pure you are, and How sweet is your fragrance, and How great is your Honour! However the honour of a Momin Believer is greater than yours.

(Hadith: Tabrani, Majma uz zawaid)

This is said because the opposite of parda-poshi is back-biting, and by doing back-biting, you lowers the honour and respect of your Muslim Brother which is according to this Hadees greater than the honour of Ka’aba and by concealing the faults of other Muslims, you would be regarded a reward in the form of concealment of your shortcomings on the Day of Judgement. Such a big honour it is. Just think on it for a while, don’t you want your sins to be hidden from the rest of the world? or how would you feel if the whole world knows your wrongdoings? So by doing this little act you are guaranteed by ALLAH ALMIGHTY that your offences will not be made public. Could there be anything greater than this a Muslim wishes for ?

Mentality of our society

With such a mindset, how could anyone awaits for respect. Even in the most reliable and honored book, sent by ALLAH ALMIGHTY  ‘ The Holy Quran’, both these orders are mentioned. Men are ordered to lower their gaze and women are ordered to cover themselves with a long shawl or a veil. Only following these orders can make us the respectful member of the society, as for Muslims, there is no alternative. Otherwise you would be unable to get high esteem and regard.
